The Yoruba Youths
Congress (YYC) has warned a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and
former Minister for Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani Kayode, not to attempt to speak for
the Yoruba people on the 2019 election.
The group said Fani
Kayode has no right to predict or speak on what the South West people will or
not do in 2019.
YYC condemned the
statement made by the PDP chieftain on a television program on Wednesday.
Fani Kayode was quoted
to have said “people of the Southwest are tired of Buhari/Osinbajo and boasted
that the people of Southwest will reject Buhari and Osinbajo in 2019.
Addressing Journalists
at a Press Conference in Akure, the Ondo state capital, the National President
of YYC, Prince Dapo Adepoju, described Fani Kayode’s statement as an assault on
the person of Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
According to him, “the
statement came to us as a shock, as we felt the decision is for the
electorate’s to make and not Fani kayode
“We see that statement
made by Fani Kayode as self serving. We know his activities and we are not
surprised that he’s reacting in this manner
“How can somebody who
doesn’t have a name of himself be attacking a Professor of law who has impacted
positively in the lives of young Yorubas during his days as a lecturer at the
University of Lagos
“In as much the group
is not campaigning for any political party but it is illogical for Fani Kayode
to be speaking ill of buhari and Osinbajo
“We are the youths and
we form 45% of the voting strength of this country, its left for us to choose
the party we want at the helms of affairs come 2019” He said.
YYC also prayed for
the quick recovery of President Buhari, saying, Osinbajo has done very well in
his acting capacity.
