Delegate elections in Sokoto concluded successfully

Maigome, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State says
the Ward delegate elections conducted across the 23 Local Government Areas in
the state was hitch-free.
Maigome who disclosed
this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Sokoto said the exercise
was conducted by the party’s electoral officers.
He said the elections
were supervised by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC), Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) and other
monitors in accordance with the Electoral Act.
“Officials at the
state Party Secretariat are compiling the results simultaneously and I have not
received any complaint or petition,’’ he said.
The Chairman said that
three delegates – two men and a woman- are expected to emerge as winners from
each ward.
He said the ward
delegates will, on August 10, elect one person as national delegate from each
of the 23 local government areas.
Maigome cautioned
party loyalists against inciting any form of violence and urged them to respect
party leaderships at all levels.
He said the party
windows were still open to defectors and assured a level playing grounds for
anyone who might express interest to aspire for any position.
“No candidate is
endorsed by anybody and every party member will be allowed to exercise his or
her civic responsibilities,’’ he said.
