Tension In Anambra As IPOB Youths Confront Governor Obiano During Church Service
Youths suspected to be members of IPOB stormed St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State where Governor Obiano was worshipping and tried to disrupt the service.
The youth were insistent that there would be no election in Anambra State in November this year. They were chanting ‘no election’ as they confronted the governor.
According to an Eyewitness report, the atmosphere was charged with so much tension that it took utmost care from security operatives.
“Governor Obiano had gone to the church to worship, only to be embarrassed by IPOB members in their hundreds, if not thousands, who stormed the church in buses.
“They were chanting ‘No election in Anambra on November 18’. The Governor had to be smuggled out by his security details,” the eyewitness said.
The youths, included women, who adorned Biafra dresses and waving Biafra flags. They besieged the gate of the church, chanting Biafra songs and shouting: “No election in Anambra State “
It was gathered that as they forced their way through the gate, the governor’s security men promptly locked up the entrance.
However, a member of the Governor Obiano’s press crew said the governor was not disturbed in any way, adding that despite the presence of the IPOB youths outside the church, he still addressed the congregation towards the end of the service and stayed till the end. Vanguard reported.
The event is coming after the governor had said that the agitation for the Republic of Biafra by Igbo cannot be possible now, calling on them to channel their energy to agitating for Igbo to become President of Nigeria.
